You know, if I were you, I would pry that Roundel off the hood, and keep it as a good luck token, as well as a reminder to always count my blessings...again, you are a VERY lucky man!

Just to clerify, were you going 80 MPH? can I assume that the Taurus was coming toward to at a similar speed as well? if that is true, then it was much like hitting a stationary barrier at 160MPH!

I'm so glad that you're OK. I didn't believe X5 is such a safe car.

It's amazing that both drivers survived without serious injury. An 80mph offset frontal collision? Let's see NHTSA test that!

I agree it's especially miraculous that the taurus driver was ok. The X5 weighs at least 1000lbs more, so we really have to give some credit to Ford for making a very safe vehicle.

PS - take good care of your back and neck. Soft tissue injuries can take months to heal. Even if you feel fine now, I'd lay off sports or working out for a few weeks to be sure. In fact if I were in your shoes I'd be lining up visits to the chiropractor and massage therapy (on the other guy's insurance bill, of course) and popping ibuprofin.

save the tires !

Glad you were ok - it just made me realize more how much I need a new car (mine being a '95 with a 2/5 star crash rating). I was only 17 and didn't care much back then. Someone crossing a divider is obviously something you cannot control and leave it up to the hands of engineers. Good job BMW.

Glad your ok. At speeds of 40mph impact speed 80mph that's one big huge crumple zone good to see the main part of the body done it's job and kept you safe. It's amazing how they design motors today to crumple when hit keeping the Integrity of the car solid. What did the other car look like.
