For those with front tags/bracket: question for you

I have a tag bracket (front) on order and wanted to know if you have to drill into the front of the bumper or does it mount under the lip where it would not leave holes you can see from the front if removed later on.

Not sure; but if your vehicle is new the dealer does this at no charge and it would only seem reasonable that the holes would be seen. But ask them about it before they do the job.

Edit: what an idiot those ol'bastard is getting to be...I see you are in the
E70 forum, so obviously you have a brand new ride. I doubt my '01
experience will help much. Your knucklehead Stlr should do it for you
and inc. bracket for free...hope it's not Century in S'Burg...

On my '01, which came from NY with front plate&bracket, it required drilling 4 holes...
(here in NC, front plate is long gone, but I still have the tiny holes). If you need a
close up pic, I can do one and post it.

Not sure what year you have, but the front bumpers are diff on more
recent MYs; maybe a newer MY owner can pipe in.

My E70 came from the dealer with a front bracket. It snaps under the bumber but in my case the two top screws go though the plate and into the front bumber. So top screws are sheet metal type and the bottom two machine screws.

Not sure if this has to be this way but it sure keeps the plate from moving. Arounf here we have to have front plates but it would not be a big project to fill in and blank bumber paint the area later.

I found the braket in the trunk, I handed it to the dealer and they installed my plate on it on the car.

My Bracket was MIA so I ordered one since my wife wants her Pawley's Island plate. On my NSX it attaches under the bumper, which is what I hoped was the case on the X5. I will have to figure out how to avoid the drilling into the bumper.

Check this link and see if they have a model for the X5. It utilizes the tow hook area behind that little plastic door I believe is in the bumper, plus it gives you the option of removing it for car shows.

Too bad the tow hook is not dead center on the X5! I like that idea they came up with, but I prefer the tag in the middle as to not screw up the looks of the car.

Dead Center

Ya.... that would have been nice.

I do not mind having a front tag on my X5... On a small sports car.. No Way!!

Mine is already installed so it makes no difference to me now.

My wife got a new Z4 Coupe and told them ahead of time.. DO NOT INSTALL the front bracket. In Virginia we have front tags but the wife runs the risk of getting stopped.
It is real petty to write a ticket over it and the car is so pretty without it...
