Auto Tailgate possibly delayed again

My production was scheduled to start in September (after having ordered in November 2006.. ). The original reason for the push back to September was that BMW confirmed me that I would then be able to get the Auto Tailgate. I agreed to that, so we waited.

Many of you on this board were given other info, that this option would not appear until 2008.

Well, now I heard the same info from my dealer, it's not going to be taken in production until January, or even April.
And obviously, that is too far away for me to keep waiting, so I cancelled the option . Damn, I could have had production start at the beginning of July if I had been given this info by my dealer a bit earlier.

Anyway, any other Auto Tailgate ordering experience is welcome.
I'm starting to believe this is no longer a production problem, but simply a sales/commercial decision not have have it yet.

It would have been nice to have.... I wanted it but when told it was delayed... said forget it!! I want the car. I can close the rear on my own as I have always done. Not that I go in there that often anyway.

I am physically storng enough to open and close it so I really do not need it anyway.

Being available in a book and for BMW to actually have it in their possession to install is something to think about.

I do not know of anyone who has it in their vehicle. Many ordered it only to be told it is not currently available.

From what I read, the bottom portion of the tailgate is still a manual-close anyway. Not worth the option if you ask me... unless the person is too short or weak to close the top portion. BUT, if it's supposed to come with comfort access anyway (for the same $1k price), then by all means.

Like I mentioned.... was not that big of a "want" that I was willing to wait.

Hope it's worth the wait to those that decide to wait... simply not a reason that I would delay my order IMHO...However given the date I owuld wait for MY2008 now.

Can you take pics of brochure and post it. Per my info,
Dutch BMW site has now prices and options for X5s produced from October 2007 but no auto tailgate.

I have seen the auto tailgate (on a test mule), and since it's really just a top half only deal, it's not a big benefit to us. If they had made it so that the bottom was also power, or where the cargo cover would power in and out (a la Mercedes E-class wagons) it would be more useful. It's possible they are adding one (or both) of these features, hence the delay. I would have to do a little more asking around to know for sure. I can say that I think you are dreaming if you think they are going to add the feature to the Comfort Access package and not bump the price. This is just like those of you waiting another year for the TT engine. It's going to be a great improvement, but unless the sales tank on the X5 in the meantime (not really likely) or the Dollar gets much stronger, you will be paying extra for that engine in the MSRP price.
