New X5 Purchase Questions

Hi,

1. I'm about to order an X5 SD M sport (UK). I'm number 10 on the waiting list at my local dealer so I'm looking at a Mar-08 delivery. This issue I have is that I really need a car for December (ski trip, etc.). Has anyone had any success in being supported by BMW? e.g. will sales subsidise a X5 rental? (my local dealer has a rental unit but it's a separate legal entity). Are Bmw likely to offer me a guaranteed buy back price if I purchase a used vehicle from their forecourt? any other suggestions?

2. Anyone have any details yet on the options/packages for the UK 08? The Bmw website does not even include the SD yet. I really want to start trawling through the options and pricing things up.

3. Any news on Night Vision

4. Can anyone offer any advice with how to negotiate with the dealer? I've been told that pretty much they won't offer any discounts because the car will sell itself - but what about other concessions? e.g. discounted service packages or reduction of the labour charge, etc. etc. Any empircal advice here would be appreciated so I'm best equipped when I place the order!!!

Many thanks
Nick

I would recommend you call around the dealers, although it may be a little early at the moment.

I managed to get a dealer ordered vehicle, which was close to the spec I would have chosen. 3 weeks later I took delivery.

Dealers will definately order their full entitlement, customer order or not, so call around - try a big dealer network. For example Rydale (now owned by Sytner) in B'Ham have 5-6 dealers locally all of which order their allocation - the vehicles can then be switched from dealer to dealer.

Don't expect a discount on the first sd's though.

I had bought a number of cars from my dealer so he was keen to find me a car and although I didn't get a discount on my X5 I did get an excellent figure on my trade in.

In the states BMW dealers are usually pretty firm on prices, you might be able to move it 500-1000 dollars, but that is generally it. As for 08 information, I don't believe that is out yet.

Bigger dealers have more allocations then smaller ones.
Check this thread on UK availability and this thread for X5 sd details. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm planning to purchase through Specialist cars - I think there's 4-5 dealers in the group so a pretty big outfit.

If I can't get the date brought forward what about the option to purchase used with a guaranteed buy back price? has anyone explored or heard of this?

Also, if there firm on price (which they do seem to be) what about other concessions? anyone got deals on servicing? or dealer supplied accessories, etc. etc.

Thanks
Nick

I reckon you'll be lucky to get a guaranteed buy back price on any used or even new car - I have never heard of this. Dealers won't even commit to the price they will give on a trade in car much more than 1 month in advance.

Concessions / freebies - again in my opinion you'll be lucky. I got a crappy M badge key ring!

Sorry to be negative.

THanks for the reply.

I guess I was hoping that Bmw would accommodate be somehow in needing a car for December. I guess based on the responses they won't!

Damn these cars that sell themselves!!! No incentive for the sales guys to try!!

I've now got the dilema though that my wife is tempted to can the X5 order and go with the Toyota 7 seater.

I first went into my dealer thinking I could knock $AUD 2-3000 off the price.. I didn't do my research and didn't realise there was a backlog.. in the end I got free mats, window tint, titanium grilles, ipod cable and xenons at cost. So I was pretty lucky, Note that I am in Australia. It will be even harder with the new engines I owuld say.. they may do deals on the standard diesel though but I guess you don't want that one !
