Opinions and Suggestions

Hello everyone,

I ordered a 4.8 X5 at the dealership in early July. I was faxed an order confirmation on July 2nd, and faxed one signed on July 5th to the dealership. In my opinion, this would mean that 4 weeks from July 5th or 6th is when I should expect my X5. While I am currently out of the country, and just checked the website of the Owner's Circle, and called the BMW info, I have found out that might anticipated production week is 35, or the week of August 27th. This seems to me that the X5 will not be available until September 7th, or slightly thereafter. The BMW rep. whom I talked to could not give me an order date when the dealer put one into the BMW HQ, only the projected production week.

I want the opinions of other situations to see if it is the "norm" to be told 4 weeks, and expect 8-12 weeks, or if I should be angry/frustrated and so forth about this event. I also do not have a second car available to drive, as I was planning to return from vacation and have a car available.

Any rants, opinions, or suggestions are welcome.

Do a quick search on the board and you will see that there have been a few issues with delivery times. Hang tight, as you said you have another ride so it isn't killing you.

Yes, the delivery/production is pretty messed up. When I ordered the same X5 from two dealers, to see which one will give it to me first, (This was JAN 07) one dealer got right on it and reserved me a spot, and said APR 07. Other dealer waited about a week, then called and said it will be there middle of FEB 07. So it depends on the slots that the dealer has, and also on the factory.

It can also depend on what options you ordered. Typically a 4.8 has a longer wait since dealers do not get as many allotments for them as the 3.0 and they are in high demand. Also Technology Package cars and the 20" Wheel option caused delays in production for people due to limited supplier availabilty (they did not anticipate the demand for these items to be as high as they turned out to be).
