backup camera operational question..

Does anyone know if there is a way to reduce the time the back up camera is active after one puts the car into forward?

I hate how after you back up, and you go into drive, you're locked out of the idrive (waiting on the camera to go off) for that 150 meters or what ever it is. It's worse when you just use reverse a bit to (say..) fix your self in a parking space, and then after you go back to P or D, you're married to the backup camera until you either power down the car, or you drive off that distance again.

Anyone have any ideas?

The quickest way, and what I do is push the PDC button and that shuts off all the parking assist devices, including the rear camera. But as far as a setting, I don't think there is setting anywhere in iDrive that allows you to specify the exact "off" timing or distance.

I'll have to give that a try, thanks. I wonder what their logic is in keeping it on longer? Our friends Honda Odyssy shuts off as soon as it's in Drive or Park.

I totally agree...my best guess is to avoid the camera monitor switching between a series of parking manuvers.

It seems to be linked to the PDC that will also stay on for a period of time as you park etc... and then exits after you hit a certain forward speed. ?

Hi,

maybe, but in the E53 it wasnīt like this, the camera switched off inmediately after moving the stick to D. I also donīt understand what they intend with this set up.

regards
Alex

yea, either a certain forward speed, or certain distance. Maybe it's to see if you ran over anything as you pull off?
