20" Run Flate Tire Rotation? and How?
Do you suppose to rotate the run flat tires for Style 214 20" wheels?
Given the rear and the front wheels are different width I dont think you can roated them right? |

I don't think you can. Even with 18" tires on my E53, my SA said BMW does not recommend rotating the tires. I guess they were right. 50K miles later, my tires are still pretty even and show no signs of uneven wear.

Since the fronts and rears are different sizes and the tires are unidirectional, the only way to rotate them is to have them dismounted from the wheels and remount them on the opposite sides (rotating in the same direction). Considering the cost of these tires, it is a worth while expense IMO that most quality tire shops can do.

crazy about bmw but yep no rotating.
taking the tire off the rim to rotate would cause more wear on the tire then not rotating them.

anyway may not be drastic but I would not want to dismount and mount my tires eve 6k miles or so.

+1 Mounting and dismounting a low-profile tire raises the potential for rim and bead damage.
I have 70,000 km on my E53 X5, I have never rotated the tires, and the tread wear is very even. Had runflats on the Z4, and the wear in the first three years was very even as well. The only benefit I have associated with rotating tires is balancing out the wear. So, I can't see the point with these vehicles.

I have an E90 with 17" tyres, all the same size.
I decided to swap the front with the rear as the rear were wearing out faster - but I was sorry that I did. After I swapped the tyres (a few thousand KM later) I had to change all 4 tyres as they were wearing really strange. It seemed that the font and rear wear on the inside and outside differently. I ended up with what looked like a ridge in the middle of the tyre (and it didn't look good). When I was changing the tyres the BMW service guy wanted to start adjusting the rear tracking (I think he said tracking) because the tyres looked strange - then I told him what I had done and he said that was the cause. I reckon I would have got more mileage out of my front tyres if I didn't do the swap |
