I was thinking about buying the 3.0 gas X5 but I found that it lacked the get up and go. How does the 3d compare to the 3.0?
This waiting is killing me.

The 3.0d is amazing, lots of power and torque. I am upgrading to 3.0sd because my one is being replaced due to an oil leak that was not resolved after being in 5 times. But it really is something to be excited about.

There is ahuge difference in performance of the sd judging by the 5 series...aprticularly in gear, 0-60 times only tell half the story. The Twin turbo also sounds better.

I guess there are no comprehensive comparative performance figures for the single versus twin turbo X5s as yet? We'll have to wait for Decemberish road tests I guess ?

BMW have released some figures and you could look at the X3 or 5 series to give a good idea of the differences

I think the 3.0d is underpowered, especially the 211 bhp version we can order in belgium for tax reasons. I drove one and was not impressed. Now waiting for BMW belgium to have a 3.0sd test car available...

the diesel has a lot more torque, especially in the lower end. I have driven a 4.8i aswell, and even compared to this one, the torque of the diesel 'seems' stronger. (don't know the exact torque numbers though). Honestly, I would never by a 3.0 petrol engine in an X5 !

Cool What to compare...

Am also hesitating between 3.0d and 3.0sd (my first diesel but after trying the 3.0si my wife and I were disappointed). In my past experience with 3 x 3series have always been able to be in line with what BMW says). In the case of the X5 3.0d I estimate (based on driving it for 24hours and the 3.0si for 48h) that I will make 1.5l more per 100km than the announced 8.7l/100km...

Now if I'm able to stay wise I'll have to wait for December to be able to test the X5 3.0sd (the X3 is 400-500kg lighter than the X5)
