I'm telling ya....the're just slapping the cars together over there 'willy nilly' just to get them out the door.

It's concerning. They should either open up another manufacturing plant and/or do something about the workmanship.

I'm expecting mine to have some problems because that way I wont be disappointed when it happens.

Well, that's what I think anyway.
Hmm, for that you might need to consider moving to the other side of the pond.

Regarding canceling: For those of us shopping for a new SUV...or in my case, my first as a daily driver, stuff like this from a 'top' manufacturer is worrisome. And the fact that it’s not an isolated incident is also a concern. I’m also surfing the Audi forums looking at the Q7 and don’t see reports like this. I don’t mean to start a debate between the two trucks; I’ve driven both and am acutely aware of the X5’s high points. As and aside, I want to support the US economy by buying something built here.

This is an older thread and discussed the '07 model which is the first year model of the E70. Software fixes have been plentiful and have addressed a lot of issues already. I 'finally' ordered an '08 model because of this and so did Drod who said he would wait. I'm sure many of us who were doing our homework here have done the same. I know I've seen a ton of "it's finally here" posts recently. The many 500-2000 mile review posts have also been positive.

I think before anybody runs their mouths about the workers in Spartansburg, they should visit it. I've been there twice and it's impressive. Modern, clean, and the workers are among the most professional folks I've met. Had the pleasure of touring the plant twice during BMW Roadsterfest when I drove my Z3 down (the Z's are also made there). Saw the vehicles being manufactured and it's like watching an orchestra. Didn't see anyone that looked like they came from Burger King.

Are the X5's made entirely in the US or just assembled there from major components ?

Also I was under the impression that the diesel in the US wasn't suitable as yet for the diesel models. If so, how do they test the diesel models being built for export before shipment ?

Pitty the build quality is so poor then. What's your explanation for the multitude of inexcusable gripes that folks here have? Sure components will be faulty, not every one will be perfect. But squint trim, misaligned doors, loose seats, hand marks on the Xenon lenses to name but a few.

I don't think they're poorly built. Poorly build cars don't sell. Look at the UK car industry. It's gone (or sold off to the Germans, and soon Indians) because of abysmal quality. Same with some Italian brands that used to be sold in the US, and some US brands too. The market thins out products of poor quality. X5 sales went up last year. I really enjoy my E70 and I belive most on this board do too!
