Spartanburg, S.C. (9/20/2007) — BMW Manufacturing Co. today shipped its 100,000th next generation X5 Sports Activity Vehicle to a customer, less than one year after the first updated X5 was manufactured at the Upstate South Carolina factory.
The 100,000th X5 is going to a customer in Bellevue, Washington. This X5 represents a dual milestone for Plant Spartanburg having achieved production of 100,000 in less than one year from start of production last October. ![]() "Reaching this milestone in less than a year is an indicator of how popular the X5 is with customers," said Robert M. Hitt, Public Affairs Department Manager with BMW Manufacturing Co. "With the original X5, it took almost two years to reach the 100,000th milestone and due to customer demand, the factory continued producing the original X5 until a week before the next generation vehicle began production. That is popularity." The X5 is produced exclusively at BMW Manufacturing for distribution to more than 120 worldwide markets. BMW Manufacturing, a subsidiary of the BMW Group based in Munich, Germany, is the exclusive manufacturer of the Z4 and M Roadster, Z4 and M Coupe in addition to the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. Its website address is www.bmwusfactory.com. In addition to the South Carolina manufacturing facility, BMW's North American subsidiaries include sales, marketing and financial services operations in the United States, Canada and throughout Latin America, and a design firm in California. Rats, I just missed number 100,000. Mine was delivered from the factory on Sept. 14th to my dealer. Same color combination, so I had to look twice.
Way to go BMW! (when other car companies are losing volume) |

Congrats, I guess...but, am I missing the arithmetic on "100,000 Xs"?
Through August they have sold 22,000 X5s in the US, and a total of 42,000 X5s and X3s combined, in the US. They must have sold boatloads outside the US and then really hauled azz in September, both US and export. http://www.xoutpost.com/attachments/x...f?d=1189000772 Amazing to me is that I have not seen a new X5 on the road yet, this year. I must not get out much, lol! BR,mD

Quote:
SUVs are very popular worldwide, and in Europe (for example) there is no concurrence from American or Japanese (for the most part, as we don't get Acuras or Infinitis here) SUVs, so the vast majority of (all?) SUVs sold in the X5's category here are German. BMW is selling many X5s throughout the world. |

I see any where between 2 to 5 X5s everyday. Mostly 3.0 and mostly space gray.
