New X5 Aero Package

Hi everybody,

I have ordered a 2007 X5 4.8 and I wanted to add the Aero package to it. I was told that it would be cheaper to add it at the factory or port. My dealer is having problems getting it applied before delivery and admitted that it would be much more expensive if done at the dealership. Again, the problem is that it supposedly is not available at the port or factory for install.

Does anyone have any input on this? Has anyone had it added prior to delivery to the dealer? Is it true it is not available prior to delivery?

Thanks for your input.

Steve

I was unable to get the kit installed at the factory. My dealer said that it was only available from them after the fact. Further, I called a couple of dealers in my area, and they actually told me it would be easier, faster and cheaper to buy the kit (from them or elsewhere) and have a reputable body shop paint and install it...that is what i am planning to do...

Yes, they are assembled in Carolina. But, they are having issues getting it done there. I want to make sure the dealer here in Vegas is not being lazy and just going to do it after the fact and charge much more. Again, anyone had it installed prior to delivery?

I really would like some input.

Thanks,

Steve

Leverage in the ordering process could be the key. (You are the customer) If as you say, "you were told that it would be cheaper to add it at the factory or port" Then my suggestion would be to say "i'm happy to go thru with this order provided the Aero package will be installed at the factory. If not then i'll place this order when it is avaliable or from another dealer that can guarentee it's addition. Reason??? You admitted that it would be much more expensive if done at the dealership so why should you accept this extra expense and trouble?

So unless your in a hurry for the vehicle just tell them you won't accept delivery unless it comes as you specify, period.

any idea how much it is to have the dealer paint/install it after purchasing the kit ($1200)?

You can get the kit from a wholesaler for about $1000. The regioanl dealers I spoke to said it would cost at least $600 for paint. They didn't quote me labor, but you've got to imagine it will be at least 3-4 hours of work for 1-2 techs to install....

As a point of reference, my dealer when I took delivery quoted me $3200 all-in including the cost of the kit at MSRP ($1200), paint and install - but this sounds very high, even relative to other dealers.

My understanding is the aero kit is a stlr/body shop only add-on,
and that accessory is not factory installed at the BMW plant in
SC.
