I would love a 4.4 but I can only justify the price of a 3.0. The CEO thinks it does not have enough get up and go. I've seen posts that it improves as time goes by. What have most of you experienced after the break in? Thanks' |

Does it have enough torque for its size, probably not. |

I believe it has enough power. Others differ. Only you can decide, since you will be the one driving it.
Yes, as it breaks in it gets more power, usually up to the 5000 mile mark.

Well I have only driven 800 miles so far. The only issue I have is sometimes the engine can't seem to find the right gear as I climb some of the steeper hills in San Francisco. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with power.
Like you, I couldn't quite justify the extra price to move up to the 4.8, since the X5 will primarily be a baby mobile.

if you can wait, it's gonna get the twin turbo 3.0 soon, which has a lot more torque and a lot more power.
otherwise, if it's anything at all like the previous gen 3.0... it doesn't have any jump to it, but will pull harder as revs increase |

I thought it was sluggish when I first picked it up with 12 miles on it. I now have 600 miles and I can barely feel any hesitation getting up the freeways on ramps. I was advised in this forum that it does take a couple thousand miles to get it broken in specially the transmission and this looks like the case. It would be nice to have a 4.8 but I cant' justify the price tag with 2 kids. The 3.0 is sufficient and I'm very happy with it.

Ah you got a new baby. Just hang in there the tranny is still trying to learn your driving habits.( The 3.0 does do that right?)
My 2005 did it until i took it in for a transmission update but that was well past the learning period. Quote:

Same here ... think about what type of vehicle you are buying. It's a BIG X5. Not a 6 series. We got the X5 because we have three kids. I would never buy a car like this for just a single adult driver with the occasional passenger (I know some do though). For what it is used for, it has plenty of power. Compare it to something like a Volvo XC90 or a Discovey, and the X5 leaves them standing. 0-62mph in the 3.0 Diesel X5 is 8.1 seconds. I used to own a Jaguar XJ8 which achieved the same identical figure. This is no slow coach!

After readin you initial post again, some interesting words stand out.
#1 "The CEO thinks it does not have enough get up and go". That said i believe you need to find a way to get your money together unless you want one dis-satisfied woman. Quote:

I have rarely been in a situation where I needed more power. I am very satisfied w/ the 3.0 and I drive very aggressivly. I have noticed a marked improvement in power and transmission after about 3000 miles. I originally was dissatisfied w/ the transmission behaviour, but lately it works perfectly (I have 10k miles now)
