Aluminum Trim in an '08

I was curious as to everyones' impressions regarding the interior aluminum trim. Is it true the 'upper' and 'lower' aluminum pieces on the dash and 4 doors are not identical? Are both pieces brushed in the same direction? Are they the same 'shade' of aluminum? Are they both metal (as opposed to one piece being plastic)?

I'm in the last few days before I can change my '08 build and the aluminum trim really intrigues me but I've never seen it with my own eyes. I'm not sure how much it would bug me if 2 pieces are not identical. I've looked at ALL of the photos posted in this forum and the aluminum looks great. . .but the photos don't do justice to any (not so?) subtle texture and colour differences.

BTW, I've currently specified the dark bamboo wood.

I had the Aluminium trim in my X3 - hated it with a vengance to be honest.

The X3 trim was real metal over the plastic base- but it scratched very easily and looked poor quite quickly - I swapped it out for the plastic Titanium II trim which seems to keep its looks better and is not so 'bling'.

Each to his own I suppose & I think the newer Alu trim is slightly different - mine had the sort of 'spots' which look like a big version of the E46 cube trim - too much IMHO!

Thanks trapdoor. The aluminum trim in the X5 is "brushed lengthwise" as described in the email from my dealer.
