That phone is not on BMW's list of compatible phone (at least in US). If it's not on their list, they will not even look at the issue. I have a $600 dollar Treo and the BT connection drops in the middle of the call. Phonebook will not even download. I paired my daughter's $100 dollar Motorola Razor (which mind you is on their list) and the phone paired instantly, downloads phone book and the BT stays connected while the phone is inside my house and the X5 is in my garage. The call quality was also great. It's a shame because I have a $100 dollar BT headset and it pairs and works well with any phone but BMW has to tell me which phone will work best on my $62K SAV BT car kit. My solution, I borrowed my daughter's pink Razor on our last weekend's family road trip. Nice to have that X5 BT functionality when you're on a 2 hr drive, placing calls using voice commands.

Interesting:

There are members here (including me with a Treo 700P) that have Treo's and the BT connection is just fine and the phone book downloads just fine as well.

I believe you. It pairs well with my old Treo 650, which was a very bad phone to begin with. I have 2 Treo 750's and both would not work properly. My wife never liked the 750 anyway so this might be a good excuse for her to get an IPhone. What's funny is, I told the SA about this and without even documenting the issue, flat out told me that if the phone is not on the list, there's nothing they can do about it. Now that's customer service.

The 750 works much better with WM6 on it. Also, if you are still running WM5, the paid version of jetwaremobile seems to do the trick. I tried it with the free trial version with no luck. However, after reading about some members on the e60.net forums talking about how they bought it and it worked I took the plunge. Do the trick.

Too bad I gave the 750 to my wife in lieu of my iPhone. Works well with my 5er iDrive. For what its worth...

He's probablly correct. I don't believe trying to get bluetooth hardware to communicate together especially if a device hasen't been tested by BMW is a customer service issue necessarly. The problem may have so many twists and turns that it can be difficult to acertain where or what is going on when trying to get them to handshake. I have heard that some SA's will look into it but when mine didn't work at first i didn't even consider asking them about it because it wasn't on the list.

What I did do is post the question as some have right here on X5World and I learned that some BMW's have bluetooth equiptment that is compatable with some phones while other BMW'S have bluetooth equiptment that is compatable with still other phones and so on and so on. I did get good answers based on my vehicle and it worked out. In some cases though it dosen't.

As with all questions of this nature it is best to do as much research as possible then provide as much information as possible when posting. That way anyone with the setup you have may be able to pass on some useful information.

List of compatible phones from BMWUSA website

http://www.wireless4bmw.com/phones.html
http://www.wireless4bmw.com/phones2.html

As jasonrhcastle indicated, WM6 will fix my Treo 750 issue, this was also verified by my telecom resources. Unfortunately, the official upgrade (Treo 750 AT&T version) is not available yet, only hacks that are floating around the web. I've done a lot of testing for the last few days and it looks like most regular cell phones with BT capabilities that are not on the BMW list will work with the E70 car kit with little problems. Only if you have a PDA, Smart Phone or Pocket PC unit that you will experience problems if it's not on the "BMW compatible" list. I tested an HTC 8125 Pocket PC (not on the list)with a WM6 hack and it seems to work fine.

So going back to hans' original posting, the HTC P3600 (not on the list)was originally released with WM5 but if you have the one with the WM6 OS, then it would probably work on the E70.

Please take this with a grain of salt, I'm just providing info based on research and personal testing. The bottom line is, if BWM says it's not compatible, expect a hit and miss BT connectivity.
