retrofitting BMW universal garage door transreceiver...

I've seen numerous people mention this in other threads, but with no concrete details I figured I'd start a new thread...

So how is this done, how much will it cost.

MY2008 got me thinking the premium package is a total waste even at the new price, since wood and pano moonroof are standard.

Other than this feature is already included in my 07 Premium pkg, for me it's something not worth spending extra money if you don't have it. I would normally keep my garage door opener clipped on the driver side door map compartment and find it as functional as the BMW transceiver. It took me about a year on my E53 to program the BMW transceiver because I was just too lazy to do it. I'll try and get the E70 programmed sooner this time. I would probably spend the money that you're saving on comfort access or the automatic tail gate. Just my 2.

A new rear view mirror with the UGDO runs $500 at Morristown BMW and is currently on back order.

That's the 4NA Digital Compass Mirror that's in the 2008 Premium Package? I've been trying to find out what it would take to install that into a 2008 X5 4.8i but the answers that I've seen on this forum seem to talk about different mirrors so I don't have that answer yet.

Yep. Well, you have the answer now. The UGDO mirror comes with the compass function as well.

And any idea what it would take to install it? Thanks

I'm assuming:
1. Remove cover
2. unplug power, detach current mirror
3. plug in power, attach new mirror
4. Reinstall cover

Just my assumption
