trailer hitch options???

Does anyone know of an aftermarket hitch that looks better than the factory hitch? I ordered the hitch option when I purchased my 4.8 but I refuse to have it installed because it is so ugly.

I would not suggest an aftermarket hitch. You can do some serious damage to the X5 with a wrong hitch and BMW will not cover that under warranty as it not their hitch.
You can be creative and cover some ugliness of hitch and make it look nice. I have seen posts where people have done that.

Angry had to rant...

I can't believe this is the best that BMW engineers could come up with. It is the single ugliest integrated hitch design I have ever seen. Why not just cut round holes in the hood, stick flashlights in them and call them headlights?

I agree there should be a better solution than cutting out the bumper like that. I think the hitch should be a factory option and there should be a special bumper cover with a graceful curve over the hitch and electrical connector. This is how it is on a Porsche Cayenne I saw today. It is also totally wasteful to remove the original steel bumper section and discard it. Guess who pays for that--the customer (and the environment). Shame on you BMW!

The previous generation X5 had one of the best factory set-ups around. It had a special bumper with a removable cover to hide the hitch receiver when not in use.

I guess they just forgot this detail for the new X5. BMW is getting sloppy!

Hitch

I actually have the installed hitch, as well as the undercarriage protection and brush bar (on a Gray/Black X5 4.8) - think it looks great.
