Do you like your run flat tires ???

About to get a 2008 X5 and after a short test drive I found those run flat tires hard and slippery.
Comments from those with many miles with those tires would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Runflat is okay. I don't really feel much difference compared to conventional ones, however, they are expensive. I got one minor flat tire (screw on top of the grove) and it cost me (Insurance co pay) $354 to replace one tire. the dealer refused to repair becasue it is a Run flat. My suggestion is to shop for an affordable Tire Insurance.

I'm running on 19"s and I can't tell the ride difference from the 18" non RFT on my E53. It does feel stiffer on bumps and potholes which is not a big deal. I'm supposed to avoid them anyway considering these RFT's are so expensive.

I really hate RFT's..I have the bridgestone 18 inch and they really sound and ride awfull. I find they kind of bounce around hard, any little road imperfection is felt. Keep in mind i have 55 series tires, which shouldn't equal to a very harsh ride, but rft's give you hard feeling. So most of the time you get the feeling of boucing aroud instead of rolling . The michelin RFT should be better but i still think RFT's are a bad idea... They're expensive and in case of a flat your not supposed to fix them.

RFT's are fine, they ride fine , handle fine and are not noisy.. it's the punctures that are the killer .. and the cost of replacement.!

No problem with the Bridgestone 18 RFT's. But, if I get 30K miles out of them, I'll be happy and replace em with non-RFT's. The technology is a great idea, but for a daily driver, I prefer conventional tires that are easier to repair/replace, especially if away from home.

..side note to all concerned about their tires...run out side now, and check that you can loosen all your lugs. BMW has a nasty habit of over torquing the studs. Trust me, they've done it on 3 of my BMW's

Runflats are crap! they ride poorly over sharp undulations, they are noisy the only benefit is that they handle better than a regular tyre. My E60 was TRANSFORMED when I changed to Conti Sport 3 regulars.

I would think the majority of the goal for the tire is to handle, not be quiet. I'd much rather have a strong contact patch then low noise.
