I like the fact that when you have 3rd row the underfloor storage in the boot (trunk) is exactly the right size to fit a takeaway curry bag - thus preventing spillage!

The other thing I like is that if you engage the electro-mechanical brake and turn the engine off the transmission goes into park automatically.

unfortunate there's no proximity detection (prob cause battery life issues though)... it seems to be a waste of the ambient lighting then - at least half the time. (Or if you like the lighting, it's a waste of comfort access hitting a button beforehand)

on volvo since 1993 maybe even earlier - finaly on bmw

http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...dont-know.html

Found a LOT of info in that link, some I could try (had tried) out that was passed on to the E70, below some C+P from the link:

================================================== ====

Open all windows and moonroof, Hold unlock button on key fob to open windows.

I dont understand why there still no option to roll windows up by holding "lock" botton on remote - other manufacturers had that otion in last sentury on cars which cost around 20k

Closing all windows with the key, To do this, you need to insert the key into your driver's door lock and turn and hold in the lock position.

Safety Windows, Windows have a safety feature if your hands are in the way while they're going up! The window will go back down!

Disable the motion-sensor in the X, (you know there is one there right?) by locking the car one more time once you have hit the lock button on the remote.

Panic Mode, if you press and hold for 3-5 secs on the trunk open button the alarm sounds.

Disable Interior Lights, Press the center interior light button on the overhead console, HOLD IT FOR 3+ SECONDS, and ALL interior lights will be permantely disabled until the button is again pressed

Radio with no keys, turning the radio on without using the key by pushing the radio power button. Turns off automatically after about 20 minutes.

Radio Station Scan, You can change radio station on the steering wheel by holding up/down button longer to scan to next station rather than preset ones.

Accessories, The radio, sunroof, and other "ignition" triggered accessories are available for a period of time after the car is turned off until a door is opened

Wipers Info, With the rear wiper actived and the car in reverse, the wiper will pass constantly versus the usual intermittent setting.

Wiper Info, When you have your wipers on fast and medium (don’t knowwhat you call it) Anyways if you come to a stop it'll go to intermittent

=================================================

Anybody have something new to add....

When stopped with your foot on the brake in gear, just press off button and the X engages park and then turns off the engine.

On your comment about the Volvo having it since 93, my 88 325I had it, so I do not think it's exactly a new idea for BMW either.

The reason BMW does not have the roll up via remote (in the US at least) is due to liability issues. This is the same reason the top can not be raised on cabrio's via the remote like they can in non-NA markets.

Here's a few for you 6FL (iPod interface) customers.

*Press the volume button in and it pauses the iPod (not just muting, like radio)

*If you press and hold the up arrow on your steering wheel, it will jump ahead a few seconds. It will fast-forward if you keep holding it down.

*If you have the voice activation, press the button and say "iPod" and it will take you directly to your iPod. (undocumented feature!)

Handy tip on the voice control... As mine struggles to understand 'Audio Aux' or 'auxiliary Audio'!

I've found a few undocumented features of the voice command just by trying them out.

Examples:

"Weather" = weather band
"Satellite" = Sirius (I think I even got 'sat' to work)

The only ones that don't work well with a common speaker voice are the phone address book ones. I created some aliases for the ones I call the most because some of the names just weren't working.
