i think you're referring to a different part of the visor. the piece i'm referring to does not extend; it is attached to the face of the visor and surrounds the mirror.

If yiou have the old Idrive and not the one with the new buttons around it. You can move directly to the feature by moving and holding the Idrive for 2 seconds tward the feature you want.

Example.... If you want to get to Navigation menu Move the idrive wheel to the right and hold for 1-2 seconds and it goes right to the screen. This is an nice feature when you want not navigate the menus or take your eyes off the road.

This works on almost any menu.... My dad flipped when he saw me do it.

very cool. i tried this on the way home from work and it worked exactly as you state. i always wondered if there was a shortcut that eliminated the need to go back to the main menu screen when changing from one feature set to another.

great find, MRV99!

I finally saw this and indeed it looks like a ticket stub holder.

That's in the manual.

As is most of this other stuff, if not all of it. Some of you guys really should take a look at the manual. Not only is this stuff documented but so is driving in the snow and DCT related things. Also many many other things like locations of specific items that come with the vehicle such as emergency first aid kit etc...since they seem to move that in every damn car they make.

Sorry to revive an old thread - but hopefully this triggers some people to read the manual a bit more and maybe some new and/or hidden features to be revealed.

Anyone?

The manual is a good read.

I particularly like the part where they say:

"Your BMW is home on all road and surfaces. It combines a 4-wheel drive system with the advantages of a normal passenger car."

Immediately follow by a big warning triage and the following text:

"Do not drive on unpaved terrain, as otherwise the vehicle might be damaged."

Perhaps something "lost in translation?"

Yeah, I found that interesting when I came across it the other night. Also there are some very odd phrases in the manual. One of which refers to "if your vehicle is equipped with only one drive" - what drive? What does that even mean? I'm assuming the dual optical disk drives for navigation/audio cd. Not sure though, still. The reason is because it was very out of context and the subject in the manual had nothing to do with the "amount of drives" on the truck.

I guess those Germans haven't mastered everything...ie: English.

Back to the day/night mode for the Navigation & Map. On my 2010 750, the map & navi would switch to a night sky with stars to a day sky with blue skies and light clouds (think this is in the 3d or multi dimesion view).

On my '11 E70, the navi screen and map stays daytime, even at night in total darkness and does not seem to dim.

Do we specifically know if the 2010 / 2011 E70 has day/night mode for the navi and map? Thanks

yes, there is night mode..

when on map, click options, and map settings.. there you'll see Day / Night mode which you can buy the way program with the assignable button.

My guess is that when they said "unpaved," they actually meant "off-road." I'd hate to think I'm at risk of damaging my X5 every time I go on a gravel road.

I use to love reading the motorcycle manuals that came with my Japanese motorcycles in the 1960's and 1970's.
