yes, there is night mode..

when on map, click options, and map settings.. there you'll see Day / Night mode which you can buy the way program with the assignable button.

Thank you, just went in the garage and found and tried it! I guess it seems disappointing, since in the '10 7 Series, the map changes automatically to night mode and then back to day mode...even if the headlights are not on!! I would be driving, using the map or Navi, and when dusk would appear, the map/navi screen would just automatically turn to a starry, night sky..regardless if my headlights were set to on, off or Auto. Very cool.

Kind of lame, that you have to manually do night and day mode for the E70. I guess though, there has to be some reasons for buying a $100k BMW 7 Sedan

Just skip nav in your next X5 and buy a $200 Navigon GPS device...or most likely, any other small portable GPS. My Navigon did it and it was pretty cool.

100% agree Personally, I will not drive a $30k vehicle with an aftermarket screen plastered on my windshield!!!

I will agree that many aftermarket navis are great though. We keep one for our German and Swedish family members, so when they visit and want to go out on their own...they can use it! And unlike the BMW, that only offers now Spanish and I think French for the Navi...the Garmin has German and Swedish!!

Kind of everything! In a cheap car, one does not expect to have built in Navigation. So, in a cheap/economy car/entry level model....an aftermarket GPS unit is no big deal. In an expensive car, one expects built in Navigation.

If you had a $5 million home, would you be happy with a window unit A/C in each room? Would you be happy with a cheap Whirlpool 4 burner stove or other cheap appliances?

How much one spends on somethings, totally dictates what one expects to get, for what we all spend our VERY hard earned money on!

In your home example, I wouldn't be happy, but if there was no way to fix the central air, you bet I would have some window units going when it's 100 outside, rather than site inside, sweating and cursing the poor air conditioning.

Unfortunately, the BMW Nav system is terrible, and there is no way to fix it. So when I travel, I use my Garmin on the windshield.

Am I happy about it? Certainly not.

But if it's the only way to get the accurate information I want, I'll do it, whether the vehicle cost $5,000 or $100,000.
