Inside Center Console is Freezing Cold

I noticed since I got my E70 that the inside center console is "sometimes" freezing cold, as if there's an air vent inside to cool your sodas

I know they have this option for the RR Sport but I don't remember seeing it on the E70.

Not a big deal except that I'm worried that it might cause a problem with my Ipod when it get's really cold like that.

Anybody noticed anything like this? I also have rear climate. Not sure if that's a factor.

There is obviously a vent in there and I have the same issue with a freezing ipod.

I asked my dealer how to shut it off and he had no idea. At least in my 3 series there is a switch to shut the vent off but I think for the X5 this is a design oversight.

Any techies out there who knows the tolerance of Ipods or any electronic stuff to cold environment?

According to apple these are the operating environment specs for the ipod classic:

Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)

So obviously warm is bad for the battery. Now what I have had happen to mine is that when it gets really cold, the battery drains all the way and then the ipod will not turn on until it is charged on the dock. The 6FL adaptor is not able to start it.

So now that it got cold at night in N. Va I do not leave my ipod in the car anymore.

I have noticed this on mine as well, but always figured it was the air making its way to the rear vents for the 4 zone climate control.

Thanks. So I guess I'm okay since I never leave the Ipod in the car anyway, at least for an extended period. At operating temp, I'm guessing the console does not go below 32 degrees F, I'll have to get a temp gage to make sure. Other than that, might as well put a couple of diet cokes in there and make that console useful

There is a small "nub" on the inside front of the console with a small hole that's where the airflow comes from. When the heat is on you will get hot air as well.

There's got to be a legitimate explanation for this but, WTF, who needs cold and hot air inside the console?

possibly spray painting it black for a factory effect?

Might just be air leaking from the HVAC routing to the rear air outlets through a hole put there for some other purpose, e.g., wasn't designed that way, it just happened.
