Premimum Sound Option $1850 !

The Premium Sound option @ $1850 seems awefully high.

Who has regular stock sound and with they spent the extra $1850 ?

Who is happy with regular sound ?

Anyone have the premium sound and think it's worth the extra 2K ?

"is it worth it" - completely subjective.

I agree it's subjective but I am looking for value judgements - ie...it's probably not worth $10,000 to too many people and the $2K that BMW wants also seems way too high. The old premium sound upgrade on the E46 wsas $750 and I thought worth it, but I don't think it's worth $1200 on the E90....and now $1850 for X5....looking for "value for money" opinions...

I've only heard the Premium system and it's good but if you want great bass you won't find it in the upgrade. The highs and mids sound good but I wanted better lows

I think it's worth it. But as stated it's all relative.

We listen to music a lot and I'm a discrimate listener who just paid $2,500 for a Chinese CD player and am about to spend over $3K for a new turntable and arm- and an extra $800 for a cartridge (not considered a lot by high end vinyl freaks).

The comment about the bass is spot on IMO.

If I listened only to news and sports and occasional music the standard system would be fine- in fact I think it's pretty good for a base system.

fyi if you didn't know - in addition to the sound quality (plus extra speakers), you're getting a dvd-changer that can play movies in your nav screen. Still not worth it to me though.

IMO, it makes a difference all around. The Logic7 in my mom's 325i makes my mp3s sound a lot better, almost like a CD in my X3. And good CDs (the kind you buy from the store/online, not the ones you burn) sound fantastic.

The reason Premium Sound got more expensive for '08 is because they replaced the CD changer with the DVD changer. I would get the option, but I'm fairly picky on sound. I spend time fiddling with the equalizers to get it *juuuuuuuust* right. (And of course, by the time I get it just right, it's on to the next track, which means I have to readjust it )

i also thought about it for awhile before finally placing my 08 order..

i examined both systems and although i noticed a difference in the upgrade it wasn't the "wow, i must get the upgrade!" feeling i was expecting..

the stock seemed more than enough... i have an upgraded system in my Landcruiser and the stock x5 sounded better...(maybe because it offers more speakers and two subs!)

i just couldn't justify the $1850 for the upgrade...

but if you're planning on swapping out speakers later, and upgrading the amp separately then i would opt for the upgraded system. You will end up spending the same amount for the same results... (better to have it installed by BMW than some third-party that will rip things apart)
