X5 v VW Touareg

I own a V6 touareg which i like very much.It is fairly quick, very luxurious, spacious and a true offroader. The only drawbacks are the various problems which were all solved under warranty. The warranty is due to expire and i was thinking about selling it and buying the touareg 2 or the new x5.
Has anybody changed the touareg for the X5 and what were their impressions? How different is the X5 compared to the Touareg?
I read in here that the X5 has some problems too.Thank you.

My dad is on his 2nd Touareg and loves it. I must say I was impressed with the power off the line (V8) It is quick. Handling is OK. I hate the steering, it feels so loose compared to the X. I find the VW seats very uncomfortable. The X seems to have better clearance getting in and out, I always feel like I'm going to whack my head on the door jam. The VW is unstoppable in bad weather. I just don't find it fun to drive. The X brings a smile to my face every time I turn the key.

He had the first model year and now has a 2007 V10 diesel. I'm not sure what the Treg 2 is.

He's had a couple of minor issues. I'll get a run down and post them. Listen to Wagner, go test drive the X. You'll never look back.

The Touareg 2 is the codename for the facelifted Touareg.
I find the seats very comfortable.I have never tried the car offroad.

Go drive a X5, it should answer all your questions.

I owned a fully loaded V8 Touareg 2004. I now own a fully loaded E70. The Toureg had some features that are better, namely the memory setting for the heated steering wheel was a plus. The heated seat controls in the Touareg were better, the X5 you have to switch them on each time you get in the car.

The off-road capability is obviously far superior in the Touareg, but the road handling in the X5 is way better. Power and acceleration really feel better in the X5. The seats in the X5 are much more comfortable, although I have the sport package and seats in the X5 which are really awkward to get in and out of (front seats). I have had a number of people comment on this, I would get the Comfort seats if I bought again, maybe they would not have that much of a seat edge on them. The headlights are about the same power and effectiveness. Mileage not too different, although I think I am going to find the X5 getting the edge as I run the car in.

Because my Toureg was a 2004 model (first year of production) I had loads of trouble with it. In the shop at least 18 times for issues. The service level at a BMW dealership is light years ahead of VW. Compare eating at MacDonalds to the 5 star restaurant at the Ritz! That is a big part of the ownership of cars priced not too differently apart.

The new Toureg 2 really is not much different, I looked and drove it before changing to the X5. I found that they were slightly downgrading the Toureg unless you bought the V10 diesel, which is a great engine but extremely heavy. However the price of that version does not justify the VW name or service levels you get from VW. That price range is only justified for the likes of BMW, Mercedes, etc.

I am glad I bought my X5, I love it. It is more exciting to drive.

My friends have an original Tourag. It was borderline a lemon, in/out of the dealer so many times it was ridiculous. THey had a loaner for 3 months at one point while waiting for parts. That being said, i can't see paying for a Vdub when for a couple grand more you can get the Audi or BMW.

Just my .02.
