08 Temp. Gauge Question

I have an 07 X5 4.8 and it bugs me that there is no temp. gauge but it has a MPG gauge that is a waste of prime dash space. I was wondering if the 08 has a temp. gauge.

Nope, I find it a bit odd as well because I am used to ensuring the vehicle is up to full operating temp before getting on it, but no such luck here.

There isn’t an independent temp gauge but there is a temp gauge behind the tach correct??

No, before the 07's came out there was some discussion that a temp. gauge was incorporated in the outside edge of the tach. in the form of little lines that spread out when the engine was cold and compressed together when the temp. was warmed up but this turned out to be false.
I think BMW's position is that since the X5 uses synthetic oil that flows at cold temps. the vehicles don't need a temp. gauge. which is BS. They seem to be incorporating temp. gauges in other models but not the X5 apparently.

Page 72 of the '08 manual does not mention anything about temp reading in the cluster.

The Pre-LCI E60/E63 had the white lines around the RPM gauge that would start around 4000-4500 RPM when the engine temp. was cold, and gradually go higher in RPM until the engine was fully warmed up. For some reason (according to the owner's manuals) neither the LCI E60 (2008) nor the E70 have this feature anymore. See picture below for the pre-LCI temp. lines.

One interesting thing is that BMW makes a video input module for iDrive that allows multiple video sources to be displayed on the iDrive screen and those people that have installed this module on the E60 have gained an unexpected bonus of a temperature gauge in one of the iDrive menus. I think this module is called the ACM module.
