Question for UK owners re USB option

I have just got my car and am very pleased with it, but the dealer says that I will have to pay a further £40 to get the USB audio connector cable. Is this correct or is it included within the £200 option?

I paid something like that for a combined USB + 3.5mm audio jack cable... I agree that it is a bit steep on top of the £200!

i have been quoted the same price, much like i was for my Bang&Olufsen ipod cable (5 point din to phono connection) i got ripped by the dealer for 45 quid then found i could have had one made at an av store for a 10er!

my point is Im looking at getting it somewhere else also just because i dont want to give them the satisaction of getting it from them !

grrrr ill post up when i find some places to get them either made or supplied

I never paid for my lead. If I remember correctly from past posts it's included in the price for customers in the US.

The 6FL option is for iPOD/MP3/USB integration - you can't connect without a lead so as far as I'm concerned it should be included.

What am I saying - it's BMW!!! They would charge you an entrance fee for the showroom if they could!!

I know this is a UK thread but in Australia I was told the lead was extra $... The car was not yet delivered so I insisted on not paying and actually got two leads for free in the end !!!

I connected the USB stick directly into the slot. I know the manual says that you need to use a cable in order to avoid damage, but it's sitting there quite harmlessly and works well. Having it on an extra cable would even cause more stuff in the compartment, so I like it this way.
And yes, they could have at least added a small USB stick for testing purposes, like the digital camera builders do, the stick they add is too smal for daily use, but at least you have something to test the basics.
I will check with my dealer soon if they confirm the "operating speed improvement" reason for removing the force feedback function.

Btw, I have connected a 4GB USB key with some 40 albums on it.
It works like a charme with all the title, genre and album info, I will never use a CD in my car anymore.

Yes, I have bought a Sandisk Cruzer 4GB and it works. I've also tested an old 64MB NoName stick.
I did not dare yet to buy the 8GB, or even 16GB versions (not sure if they work, I assume they do since 6FL supports 20000 tracks according to the manual).
I've also seen people here connect USB harddrive which seem to work.

As I mentioned earlier, if you have an Ipod, just plug the lead into the USB slot and it all works, sound titles the full works. Also if you have an ordinary memory stick that works as well, as long as there is no compression (i.e sony sticks). happy lisening
