What the *&&%^^?

I asked the dealer about trading the Style 214s that came on my car (I have yet to pick the car up) for the Style 128s. He said they don't trade- fair enough- but then he stated that a modification has to be performed to make the 21 inchers fit. And that the cost (including the wheels which retail for $5,995) would be over $7,000. Of course I said no thanks.

But when I asked what the modification entails he stated I would have to call service....

Now I know this is BS- but has anyone else heard this line? I'm tempted to write BMW....

The dealer is VOB in Maryland BTW. They wanted us to pick the car up before the trailer hitch was installed- we said no. They said it could take months to get the parts. I said we'll wait. The parts arrived in two days miraculously. We'll probably pick it up this weekend.

Why does car buying have to be such an exasperating disgusting experience??

My dealer (in the UK) is buying back the factory 20" M V Spoke wheels from my origional spec and giving me a credit agaist the 21" 128's. No modification required that I know of assuming you already have the wider wheel arches.

they tried to run that scam on me at another dealership here... (which i decided not to do business with)

the SA said the vehicle would need to be brought back in for service for "modification" and "reprogramming" if i wanted to change the wheels..

and we're not talking about fender flares or anything....

she had no clue on what those mods were but i would have to pay for this service..(a couple of hours worth of labor!)

the only thing i can think of is resetting the TPM sensors and/or maybe adjusting suspension if the wheels are significantly larger (and in your case it isn't necessary)

i say if you can take your business elsewhere than do so.....who knows what else they will throw at you in the future?

just my .02cents

If you carefully read the 07MY brochure, it says that the speed limiter needs to be adjusted for the 20" wheels. I assume that would need to do the same for the 21" wheels. That could be the "modification" and "reprogramming".

they might have meant about reprogramming the speed limiter... which is removed/raised if you have the 20" wheels and sport package together.
