My dealer advised me to fit the "Tracker Response" system which is BMW approved and wont affect my warranty.
It seems to be a system wherby the driver carries a tag (somewhere other than attached to your keyring). If the car is started without the tag being inside the car then the Tracker module contacts the tracking centre. If your car has been stolen then they can track it's location. |

you can arm/disarm the alarm with provide keyfob (that also gets programmed to replace the BMW standard keyfobs) once disarmed, you start the vehicle and take off.... (like all alarm systems) but in a scenario where you're stopped at a red light and someone opens your door to pull you out (let's hope that never happens) the intelliguard detects the open door and immediately starts a count down (45 seconds) at this point you need to enter your pin.... and if you don't within that time frame the vehicle will shut off and disable ignition... off course it won't just shut down in the middle of a highway but the moment you slow down or come to a stop at a light it will.... pretty cool.... just something to consider...

Thanks Drod, im liking the sound of that!
it would be great if it locked the doors on the chump aswell, prefferably 20 yards away from where he took the car, then pop the boot for me to get a bat out before i square up to him for a round or baseball with his head.. on a serious note ..ill have a look into that (the clifford not the bat thing) thanks

Got a Tracker Horizon on my X3 - GPS and 'lo-jack' tracking.
Makes no odds if you have your keys stolen or not - you just contact a) Tracker to report it and they monitor its location until b) you report it to the Police and get a Crime Reference Number. On receipt of this number, Tracker activate the 'lo-jack' active side which is then picked up by Traffic Police, Police Helo's and some 'panda' cars (with the equipment in). If it goes anywhere near a ferry port, they have the kit too and will stop any car that is 'transponding' a lo-jack ID. The only delay is you noticing the car has gone (unless they have towed it) and phoning it in. If they tow it or lift it onto a flatbed, you get a call from Tracker. They claim to have recovered every vehicle to date... Mine was a no-brainer as it was already fitted to the car (at BMW) when I bought it! But after doing comparisons, I would still have gone with them as other systems use the phone network to activate/locate, Tracker has it's own VHF radio network... |

Its a security feature which can become an annoyance, but can save your car "possibly" Think of it another way, if a thief carjacks your car, he is going to gun it and not likely stop for many lights, who knows what would happen next and he does get pissed off of the car shutting down on him with the sirens going off, he may even shoot up the car from the frustration. |
