You're asking about the 3rd generation nano. Right? That one is not "officially" supported by BMW but, from what I've seen, BMW has not updated their supported list since March 2007...

Assuming that you are talking about that model, on the Apple discussions site, there have been a number of people that have complained about this iPod not working right with the adapter in that 1) the iPod is not turned off through the interface when the car is turned off and 2) the iPod does not charge through the interface. I think that there may been other issues too but you check on www.apple.com/support/ipodnano

I have the new 80GB Ipod classic (I thing this is IPOD Gen 6) and have similar problems paired with my factory installed USB\IPOD option. I had to update\upgrade from a 2nd Gen IPOD, due to compatibility issues (BMW's option works with 3rd Gen and up).

My IPOD Classic is able to dock\connect to my E70 X5 and can be controlled via the IDrive. The problems occur when the IPOD will not power down, when the car is shut off, and does not recharge when docked via BMW's adapter.

I had the dealer check into this, and with an IPOD that was one generation older, the SA was able to charge and turn off the device as it should. The dealer blames the problem on my IPOD, but I think it's a combination of both Apple and BMW programmers not having had the chance to work together to resolve the issue.

I just downloaded and installed the latest ITunes, which I'm hoping will resolve the pairing issues. I'll have to give the pairing another try during the week, so I'll keep everyone posted if the latest update does the trick. In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate any input from others that have dealt with or resolved similar issues (Outside of going out and buying an IPOD 3rd - 5th Gen).

Happy Holidays everyone!
Tae
