New X5 - Low Tire pressure warning - cold weather?? anyone??

i have a new x5, only a few days old... and i just went to get in my car and the tire pressure warning came on for one of the tires. it is about 15 degrees outside and i wonder if that can have anything to do with it?

rather than traveling, i've decided to stay where i am tonight and I will check it out again tomorrow. the tire looks fine, nothing noticeable (like a nail, etc.) and it does not 'appear' flat... but then again, these are run flat tires.

any suggestions? has this happened to anyone else?

can i just check the tire pressure with a guage to see the correct pressure and if it's normal... assume the sensor is broken??

Got to check the pressures manually and then decide where to go from there. You may well have a slow puncture as it is incredibly difficult to tell just by looking at the tyres.

It's been at or below zero here in Denver and I haven't had any low pressure warnings. My e70 is less than two months old.

It is possible and indeed probable - simply check the pressures manually and set them equal.

Everyone should check their tire pressure as winter arrives and again when the hot weather returns.

Cheers,
KEF

Mine went off the first week we went below freezing. Checked the tires and they were uniformly 8-10 lbs below where they should have been. The warning was correct and inflating the tires to correct pressure cancelled the warning.

Cold weather will low the pressure in the tires, and cause the TPM to go off. It is normal. What you should do is to check the tires with a tire pressure gauge (spend $10 and buy a good one, like ACCU-GAUGE, not just a cheap pen-like). Once you are certain the pressure is normal and there are no leaks, reset the TPM system.

Also, if you added or released air to/from your tires, you need to reset the TPM again. By resetting the TPM, you are establishing new "base pressure measuring".

checked the pressures.... all tires are lower than normal, but the front left one (which was indicated by the TPMS) is even lower, at 22.5. So, i think it's an effect of the cold weather in general. I will fill it up later.

BUT... this is just ONE reason that BMW should have SHOWED us the actual pressures in the iDrive system, rather than just a warning. It would have been much easier to figure out, rather than having to get out and check the pressure manually.

My Lexus shows the seperate tire pressure for each tire, but it doens't tell you which tire is low. It shows 5 tires, one being the spare, but doesn't tell you left front ect...

Acura tells you which tire and what the pressure is.

Agree, they should have showed the actual value. Honda does it for 3+ years already.

22.5 is quite low ! I believe the "normal" should be 32 front / 35 rear .
