Question So when does the 4.4i Twin-Turbo V8 comes out for the E70 X5?

Read the press release about the upcoming X6!!

The V8 option will be a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 which is estimated to have 400 hp and 450 lb/ft of torque for the X6. BMW states it should make the X6 go from 0-60 mph in about 5.3 seconds.

Since the 2008 X5 are already out and they have the 4.8i and 3.0si engines, I am guessing that 2009 X5 hopefully will have both the twin-turbo in-line 6 and twin-turbo V8 and hopefully the bi-turbo 3.0sd diesel engine for the U.S.!

Anyhow, just planning ahead...

Would they replace the 3.0si engine with that TT inline 6 altogether because otherwise I don't see there being that many variants at the current price points. Or they could keep the current 3.0si and forego the TT inline 6 completely for the X5.

3.0si
3.0sd
4.4(tt)
4.8i

2010 is my call. I mean realistically why would they hurry in putting a brand new model's engine (pretty much the selling point of the X6) into the good old x5??

400 hp out of a twin turbo 4.4l v8 sounds pretty conservative

This information was shared to me by a BMW source.

The X6 4.4 TT will be first used in the 7 series and then later brought down the X5. Current 4.8 will likely be replaced with the 4.4 TT and the current 3.0 with the 3.0 TT, but diesel is here to stay and another reason for the hold back in the US, not enough trained techs to work on the diesel TT engine.

3.0si
3.0sd
4.4(tt)
4.8i
This is what will probably happen:

3.0TT
3.0sd
4.8i
4.4TT

The 4.4TT could also (perhaps) replace the 4.8, but something tells me it will instead be the new X5 5.0is! In BMW's usual (strange) fashion, the X6 4.4TT is badged as a 5.0...

i was told by a BMW employee at the Performance Center/factory in Spartanburg.... that the dielsel twin turbo engine will be out by the summertime! he also said it will 'not' be more power than the 4.8 (they will keep that as the fastest one for now), but it WILL get much better fuel economy being a diesel. he seemed very confident in what he was saying. he also said the X6 will be available in April.
