Backup camera question

I have a question. My wife was backing up into the back end portion of our driveway that’s next to the house and the backup camera turned into a diagram of the car with different color strips indicating how close she was to her surroundings. Well I wanted to check that out for myself so I backed into that same spot, but nothing happened. The live view of the camera never changed into the diagram. Why is that?

It can be changed from diffrent views/verisons of the PDC system in iDrive.

Go to the i menu and then to vehicle/tires or something like that and under manuvering aids the options should be there.

I have mine set to Split screen camera/diagram combo.

Thank you much :-)

But my wife says that it changed to the diagram once she got into the enclosed spot... should it be automatic?

each driver can have different settings. Go to the idrive menu and make sure that's checked off.

Thanks SANguru... I'll try that out and report what I find.

you were using different keys to start the car... just use your key, set it up in the settings and you should be all set.

I went to the iDrive maneuvering options and everything was checked off... and I couldn't see any option that would allow me to see a diagram of the car instead... and advice?

you need to find the option that says "camera & PDC" it is there... keep looking.

unless you have an older software version... then you can only choose between 'camera OR PDC"

Thanks Marcx5....

I was able to find this, however will this change the camera live view to PDC view as needed? Or will it have both at the same time?

I ask because my wife swears that when she backed up into a space, it changed from live view to PDC... but I can't seem to duplicate that effect.

no, it's either camera only, PDC only, or camera & PDC at same time (pdc is on right side of camera view).

it will not go to PDC as needed from the camera view...
