considering 08 X5,still quality concerns ?
hello everyone,I'm about to get a new car/SUV (replacing a Volvo XC90)and I'm split between MB ML and BMW X5. I have owned several MB cars and suvs in the past and there are greate cars to drive but with a lot of and problems and although they claim "major quality improvements"looking at the MB forums I'm not totaly convinced that its the case.I understand that most of the people here are BMW "loyalists" but does anyone have any advice to give based on the ownership expireance on what I should be aware of (if any) if I decide to go with the X5 ?
Thanks in advance |

hi,
i've owned various diff. makes too. the X5 is the only SUV, that feels like a everyday car than a larger SUV.... the infiniti I drove when I was in the States, is probably the only one that came close otherwise Merc - far from it Porsche - far from it Audi - far from it volvo - far from it Lexus - far from it basically BMW, have done, whatever they've done so well - to hide a higher center of gravity in a car, alongside all that weight, in an offspring known as an X5 and also known as an everyday car... truly something this is unbiased info as well |

I have owned 3 BMW's in the last 7 years and I have been very happy. I will admit there are times when I get frustrated with some of the quirks I have experienced with the car, but mostly they have been software issues, hardly mechanical. The truth of the matter is that even though they are luxury cars, they do not compare reliability wise to Toyota, but they sure do exceed MB and Range Rover from what I have seen in friend's cars.
The one true advantage of the BMW in this case is the 4 year bumper to bumper warranty. It makes all the difference to never have to worry about paying for any issues like you have to with other car manufacturers. |

Take both vehicles for a test drive. Decide for yourself, but remember the X5 will be in its second year run so bugs will still persist. BMW usually doesn't work out the kinks till 3-4 years in, just look at the E53.

My opinion only and not offend others with MB vehicles.....no comparison, go with the X5, my Mom has the ML and shortly there after was traded for a Lexus GX.

I have owned all types....and my comments have always been the same..
if you want true reliability and nothing more...get Japanese... if you're looking for German....get a Beemer!! with the X5's included warrantee/maintenance package, it is the closest you'll get to both worlds!!!

My personal experience with the BMW service and the warrantee has been top notch. I had a bunch of little quirks that I complained about (stiff steering wheel and transmission shifting noticeable) and they fixed it free of charge overnight. I have no other concerns. BMW is reliable. |
