Order-to-Delivery Time

My wife and I just ordered a 2008 X5 4.8, trading in her 2001 X5 4.4. (Thanks to all you X5Worlders who helped us make our decision...) Really looking forward to the new X, but one issue: the dealer could only guarantee the trade-in value for the '01 for 7 days. So we need to surrender the old before getting the new.

My question: What has been your experience with delivery times on ordered vehicles? Our vehicle is showing up in BMW Owner's Circle as "Ordered." How much time is typically spent in each of the categories (i.e., On Order, Scheduled, Awaiting Transport, En Route, At Prep Center, At Dealer)?

Thanks!

Depends on where you are. For east coast 3-5 weeks is what my experience is. Don't go by online as that is updated every 10 days or so. Use the toll free # 800-831-1117.

Ordered 12-6 at the dealer on 12-22. Granted I am only 5 hours from the factory.

Dealer is installing the Aero Kit today I hope.

I was initially very optomistic about receiving my ordered X5 3.0 quickly. I signed the order on December 7 and it went into production almost immediately as a substitution for one of the dealer's allocated slots. Production was completed on December 16, but unfortunately, the status on the 800 number hasn't changed since. The status is waiting to be released to the carrier. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up so high, because now it is bumming me out. Out of the 15 vehicles that I have purchased or leased in my lifetime, this is the first one I had to order.

I ordered 12/18 and the dealer promised around Jan 15-25. As of today, on the website, I am still on order. Via the 800#, I am scheduled for production with no production date yet. I spoke with a person at the same 800# last week and she said I will have a production date of the 1st week of January. I guess I'm on target for the dealer-promised date. Definitely do not go by the website for current status.

My experience is that the website is about 12 hours behind the 800 number. Whenever I check the site and then call the number, if the status is different on the phone, it changes on the website within a few hours.....Phil

Thanks!!

Thanks, all. Sounds like a typical production process: Norm of 3-5 weeks with a possibility of a pleasant surprise (2-3) or delay (6+). I will try to set my lady's expectations for a longer wait and hope to pleasantly surprise her...In the meantime, she'll be battling my daughter for a share of her Civic!

...and since the factory is on holiday, the times you listed above will not start until Jan 1 @ 7pm EST (some guy at the factory told me that is when the production line starts back up) I'm on the left coast and don't expect to see my car (status "on order" as well) until week 1 or 2 of Feb.

In UK, the waiting times/delivery dates can be somewhat erratic and waste of time. For example, my order was placed on the 4th December and I've been told that don't expect it before 1st March 2008. However, my mate who has placed an order almost identical to mine has been assured Feb delivery. His order been taken a day before mine.

My cousin waited almost 2 months after the due date of arrival on his E60 M5...

If in US you have to wait 2-3 weeks here or there...trust me you are lucky.

Tiko
