X5 in the snow.

new year day and I have to work, I live in Troy michigan, my workplace 75 miles away, 8" of snow and still snowing, I stood in my carage looking at both my 97 Range Rover, and 07 X5, X5 was the winner.

I-75 has 8" of snow(6am), I was able to drive 55 mph, without any issues, then I got to m24 the road is closed you can not tell if u r on road or off road.

The performance of E70 is far beyond any comments, the X5 is a wondwer peice of engineering.

I can say this masterpiece had paid for itself today.

I tihnk I will be doing 100 mph with the DPC.

next time I will make sure I have my camera so I can get you some photos.

yesterday, I had the first oil change at 15500(the messege said oil change due to soon 2400 mi). mine used 1 quart of oil for the first 9000 mi, I was told by the service advisor that BMW consider 1 quart of oil every 1000 mi is normal. IS THAT TRUE?

Unfortunately, yes, this is true. The automtive industry, in general, sticks by that as the standard for "normal." Obviously this is ridiculous and simply a dodge to avoid warranty expenses, but it is accpeted practice by the auto companies.

P.S. Which brings up an interesting point to mention to your dealer.

If (a) one quart added per 1,000 miles is "normal," and (b) BMWs only require and oil change every 15,000 miles or so as BMW claims, then (c) between each oil "change" you will add about 15 quarts of oil, or the equivalent of about two complete oil changes! So why not just an oil filter change at 15,000 miles? After all, the contaminants are suspended in the oil, so as the oil burns off, one would assume the contaminates go out the exhaust as well (or form deposits in the combustion chamber/exhaust system). In either case, the contaminates are out the liquid oil that remains circulating.

Then watch the dealer scratch his head while he thinks about it.
