SE or M Sport

I am thinking of ordering a 3.0sd, that was the easy part, what I want the opinion of the members on especially in the UK is whether to go for the M Sport or the SE (with dynamic pack), both are basicly the same car apart from the painted body parts of the M Sport, will they get chipped to hell with the British road chipping.

I have the 2007 3.0d and now getting the 3.0sd with M sport pack. If you've seen the M pack in the real there is no other choice IMHO. I am going with 20" M wheels. Don't worry about chips, they can be easily repaired.

I think the aero kit looks a lot better than the M pack, then get Hartge to lower that baby and get the Hartge twin exhausts

Have you seen photos of the M package or actually seen the real thing?

I have also the SD on order and is due in March..same seentiments as yourself in what to choose. In the end decided to go for SE with dynamic pack on 20's. Felt the car had a much better stance than the Sport.

However, feeling bit left out as it wasn't all body coloured I choose sapphire black to have less of a contrast.

I have an SD in SE trim with the Dynamic Pack which arrived just before Christmas. These are the reasons I ordered the SE

1) I love the 20" Y Spokes you can get with the SE. I don't like the wheels that come with the M Sport as much.
2) I just don't think the M Sport kit transforms the look of the X5 like it does with say the 3 or the 5 series. I have always had M SPorts on sprevious BMW's I have owned.
3) I honestly think the car looks better and in particular at the side it looks better proportioned with the black sills rather than the body colour items. The painted sills make the car look more bloated to me.
4) Cost. Don't think you get much for it.
5) I prefer high gloss shadowline over the aluminium trim on th M Sport. On most M Sports across the BMW range they are de-chromed don't understand why it's the opposite with the X5.
6) Durability. Won't show up stone chips or London parking scrapes so much.
7) If you order the SE and change your mind you can just get the blck trim painted which I reckon you can get done at a good bodyshop for less than the M Sport costs. It will give you 90% of the look.

Hi Freddo, there are no sd yet in South Africa, cant wait to get mine in Mar h/April. Not all garages sell low sulpher diesel. Do you have that problem in the UK. In emergency can one use regular 300ppm diesel as opposed to the 50ppm. Is there a very noticible performance and sound over the 3.0d which I have. Mine only arrives end March as a replacement for the one that the have not been able to fix the oil leak.

No problem with the quality of diesel available in the UK. Luckily.

Performance is definitely much improved though mine has only done 600 miles so far so is only really just loosening up. I had a 535d before, that engine really loosened up over time. The engine sounds much sportier in the X5 than in the 535d.
