Isn't there a break in period for the engine? As you drive more, your gas mileage should improve. When we got our 335i, it was getting about 13 mpg, now with 2600 miles on the car, we are up to 17 mpg.

Only 17 mpg for a 335? You must really mash the gas, eh?

If I drive light on the gas, then 18, but isn't it 17 on paper?

I found a sweet-spot speed for E70. It is 40mph, flat road, no wind, just the driver, cruise-control set. 28mpg !!!! I am dead serious, bad aerodynamics are killing this car !

you don't think the 6500++ lbs. has anything to do with the mileage do you?

this thing reminds me of the old track adage. pretend there is an egg under your throttle pedal. ease into it and you will be rewarded.

likewise with the brake pedal. i wonder if i can retrofit a set of E70 brakes to my e36 track rat?

I know you won't like to hear this...my SD currently gets areound 28 mpg when I am cruising at 80 mph on a motorway. That should improve to over 30 mpg as the car only has 600 miles on the clock.

That's about 23/24mpg in US terms in your highway numbers. The 3.0si is slated to get 21mpg on highway so it's not that far off... basically to be the expected benefit in the 3.0sd.

Fredo, is that Imperial miles per gallon, or U.S. miles per gallon?

Regards,

Craig

As an update I put some more miles on her about 600 so far and the standing start throttle response has gotten better and the fuel economy has gone up a bit(either that or I'm more conscious of how much gas is costing me now )

It can only be Imperial miles per gallon, given that the poster is from the UK. See rh71's post.
