I was in love with Range Rover for the looks, too. Then I went for a test drive and had a closer look at the interior. For me it was pretty plasticky and outdated. Mostly this funny green display for the radio...

I was impressed by the off road capabilities - the dealer took me to an off road demonstration track and performed tricks that created "close-to-death" experiences for me. The car seemed to perform against some laws of physics.

But then how many times one really need those? For me it was clear, I wont get involved in situations like them.

So I made my conclusion based on the following:

- inside ugly, plasticky, some parts look even primitive
- seat uncomfortable, no adjustment for head rest
- reliability is a huge question mark (based on internet reviews)
- lost value when reselling (more than BMW)
- consumption / performance ratio is worse than BMW (with Europe fuel prices it matters a lot)
- cornering and drive very soft, kinda floating feeling, while the suspension makes bumpy feel depending on the road

All these for the gorgeous outside design. Hmm...

So I decided on buying the X5. And btw, X5 looks gorgeous!

This pretty much reflects my experience and thought processes too.

Have been looking at both her in the UK. The X5 is one for the person that wants to DRIVE as the RR Sport is for the poser, the interior is has no wher near the space or finish of the X5 also you will soon get the 3.0sd with the sequential turbos which will make a fantastic car. I have had the same engine in a 535d Sport. X5 every time.

i'm sorry, an unknown indian car maker? Tata has just purchased Jaguar. Tata is no small time car maker here in India. They make all sorts of passenger and commercial cars/busses and also shit for the Indian armed forces. Indians will rule the world soon!

drive both and decide for yourself

Being a BMW board you're get a more bias opinion. Looks are entirely, 100% subjective. Where as reliability is more tangible. However, there are more then a handful of X5's with minor problems.

Check them both out
