I would have to say the opposite. I had it on my M5 and it was awesome. I loved being able to have the data in front of me without having to look down at the cluster or center screen.

I ordered the HUD in the e70 and look forward to it!

I don't have it in my old school E53 but a friend has it in his 6'er and I think that it is a 'must have'....If you are already hovering around 70G whats a few more beans on the pile.
