TPMS, can they be used elsewhere?

I have an 08 X5 with the 19" wheels. I want to go with the OEM 20" wheels. Will I have to buy new sensors or can I just remove them from the 19" wheels and put them in the 20" wheels? If I have to buy new ones, how much are they?

You can remove them and reuse them. However, if you plan on swapping the tires each season you may want to invest in a new set. I think they are about $50-60.00/ea. Tire rack also sells TPMS sensors. You will also need the stems as well.

Oh...just noticed you are in Florida. No need to swap the wheels for winter (BTW -22 celsius here in Canada right now!!). Just swap them out.

I'm in the same boat as hawk570... Planning to get 20" replicas, but not sure if I can live without the TPMS. Do you think Tire Rack has OEM applications?

If I leave the TPMS sensors off, will I have to deal with an alarm or messege inside the car on a daily basis?

Yes, a flashing light on the dash.

Any idea how difficult it is for a local tire shop to install?

It's not so much installing the sensor, that's fairly simple, but do they have the proper equipment and experience to mount and dismount the Run Flats and not damage anything!

Just make sure they don't rip them out thinking they are regular stems and breaking them.
