I had water and the only option was replacing.

So sorry... common occurrence apparently. Same thing happened to mine, very shortly after i purchased it used 2 months ago. (Actually, It's still out)
Searched high and low - unfortunately, it looks like the only fix is to replace. Mine isn't my daily driver, so I haven’t taken the time to make an apt, take it to the dealer, etc (ext. warranty) and actually just last weekend, also tried removing it and cleaning it up myself, just for sh*ts and giggles. Same result... nothing! Curious to know if, in fact, some master craftsman has invented a cure for this cancer? Anyone ever SUCCESSFULLY fixed this themselves? And if so, how!?

When they replace, they add better weather sealing to prevent reoccurance.
