Switching Steering Wheels

Hello All

I was wondering whether it'll be okay to switch the E70 steering wheel with that of the X6 ..

Only difference is the paddle shift ..

I thought about that too. The new 5 series has idrive and paddle shift as well, you could use that steering wheel as also.

I wonder what other wiring connections would be needed to make the paddles work?

hmmm.... that should be an easy swap. But you might have to make a custom wiring harness for the paddle shifters (like on the e53), unless it's already there in the e70 and just not used.

I wanted to use the steering wheel from the e60 M5, which also has paddle shifters. The only problem is that the airbags are different, which means in order to get the M5 steering wheel to work I would have to also buy the airbag. And it is $$$$$.

I once asked in this thread whether people use manual shift... doesn't seem common.

for the streering wheel swap you will need the new wheel with peddles and new streering lock switch plus my custom cable harness and use your old air bag.

So, it can be done?

How much for the harness? How much for the new steering wheel? Where can I get the new wheel?

Also, if I have a heated steering wheel now, can I get a heated X6 steering wheel?

you don't have to buy the X6 steering wheel. all you need is the new E60 07 and up that have the peddles built into it,and if you already have heated steering you will need the new heated steering wheel too + new lock switch colums

Can you tell me why you would need a new lock switch collum, I don't have a heated wheel and in regards to a wire harness, have you made one to suit the e70?
