Rear fog light install

I was reading that you could install just a switch to activate the rear fog lights on the new3 series E90's. The bulbs that are used would be the adaptive brake lights. With the fogs on the adaptive light just wouldnt be used. This being said does anyone know if it is possible to do the same to our E70's. I have read that it should not be done yadeeeyadeeeyadda. I would "assume" our X's are all pre-wired for these options and that BMW dont add fog lights to US spec cars because they arent "required" (save $$). I think I will be going to the dealer to see! I am already in Germany so asking cant hurt!
If there is anyone out there that has checked this out --let us know!
Thanks

It would be interesting to see how it works in the X5.

In the X3, even after the facelift, programming must be done to make the rear fogs work. This is despite the fact that the rear fogs work similarly as they do in the new X5, that is, as the panic brake lights.

They are a lifesaver, IMO. We drove to the Poconos in PA last Friday. With falling temps, snow cover, and heavy rain, there were portions of I-80 and I-81 that had downright no visibility. I was down to 60km/h with hazards in those sections because I was driving blind. With rear foglights, at least the truckers and other cars managed to keep a distance from me.

We have this standard on our version down south.
The switch is just opposite the front fog switch.

Did you get anywhere with this? I know someone got the part number of the correct switch, but I don't think anyone has done this yet in the US.
