I'm very surprised those of you who also went from the E53 to the E70 don't hear a difference. Both my E53s were tight and quiet. I never heard cars whizzing by, road noise etc. It seems like all outside noises are amplified in the E70....Do I have super hearing powers? Oh wait, I'm a woman, we hear EVERYTHING

I agree with you... The E70 is much much more noisy than the E53. When i talked with the dealer about noise issue he told me that the main problem is the runflat tyres...

The summer RFTs in my mom's 325i are heavy and make an almost-obscene amount of noise. I had my friend again last weekend, and he was like "wow, I can't believe BMW would put on such terrible tires". He remembers how quiet the 3 was when it was on winter non-RFTs. Now it's a constant dull roar that's worst from 60-100km/h. I plan to do some serious cornering to wear out those tires quick!

My stereo is always on and I'm normally solo. I really noticed it when the Boi was in town, we were talking and I turned down the volume. China Man heard it too.

L. Thanks for writing this. Your opinion will affect the way i test drive the new Xs, and the other models I'm considering. Personally this noise issue is something that we looked at previously when shopping a new BMW.

Over and over the wife complained about too much road and outside noise and that drove her to reject the 3 series. It was a factor when we bought the e60 as well as we noticed a more than satisfactory suppression of outside noise level's with it. Of course we opted for regular tires rather than RF"s.

The E53 was test driven over and over again and i knew it was going to to be a different animal and i was prepared for a different driving experience from my previous sedans. Going forward though, i hope BMW will address this with the diesel models as I am considering going that route.

I don't believe the X or the 3 series is going to be my choice though.
The 3 is too small and the new X has provided some doubts as to weather it would be a good choice.

My wish list is the 5 series diesel. But no telling what that's going to hit the pavement in the US.

You can bet my ears will be tuned up for the choices to come.

Thanks again

You get the idea. He agreed with me that the E53 was quieter and so are the other models. Off the record he thinks that the E70 is not insulated as well as the E53 was in an effort to keep the weight down. If you've ever opened the hood on an E53 and on an E70 you know what I mean.

Maybe you'll get a quiet one Quick. It puzzles me that a few of us agree and others disagree. I'm not sure if acceptable noise level is subjective or there are tight quiet E70s and loud ones out there

Everyone's hearing is different. Some are hearing "challenged" in certain frequencies, thus doesn't hear what you're describing

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
I think a lot of the noise is related to the run flat tires; L maybe should look into getting a set of normal tires?

Let's hope not. Hit and miss quality wise in this price range to me is inexcusable.
