The exterior design of most newer BMWs attract attention. You can thank Bangle and his horde for that. The 20" do stand out, but given the X5 is already a big SUV that attracts attention, it's like adding a match to a bonfire.

See, back in the good ol' days, when BMW was still a sensible company, their designs were more conservative without being boring, and didn't attract unwanted attention.
