Invision Headrest System

I'm interested in getting an Invision rear entertainment system installed. The factory RES has too many limitations (small screen, can't see from third row, DVD restarts after car is shut down). The Invision website only lists compatibility with 2007 X5s (with and without multi-contour seats). Does anybody have these installed in a 2008? Any reason why it wouldn't work? I don't think there are any changes to the seats but I'm not 100% sure. Finally, any opinions on these products? Thanks.

Jim

+1 Can't wait for pictures and feedback. I'm leaning more towards these units vs the RES offered by BMW now.

On a side note, I did speak to a representative from Invision. He says that it will be released for the X5 in mid-May. And that it will be an official BMW authorized part. From the sounds of it, you won't be a factory install, but rather a dealer offered accessory. It will no longer be a headrest replacement, but mounted units (which will look similar to the ones MB offers for the ML & GL) instead. Thus complete compatability with any type of BMW seats (they just need to fit the proper mount with the seat type).

I contacted a few dealers. But none of them know of the part yet.

I have the Invision system in my 2007 X5 and it is awesome. Having two independent screens is nice, the two passengers can either watch different DVDs or they can watch the same DVD (you can watch either DVD on either screen). I don't know what the "mounted" system will look like but I really like the headrest version and would highly recommend it.

You know, I've seen that picture thrown around before (in previous year's options catalogs). I've only been on this forum for a year but I'm sure the pic has been around for much longer than that. IMO, a headrest mounted system is better because it doesn't extend out into the backseat cabin space like the pictured system does. I know that with the system pictured above, my 3-year old, sitting in his carseat, would use the screen as a foot rest.

However, the main drawback to the headrest mounted system is that you lose the adjustable headrest "pillow" that comes with the multi-contour seats. I don't know how much of a loss that is since I've never had it, but I do wish I had it nevertheless. So neither system is perfect.

Check out this thread.

It has very good info comparing Invision to another RES system.

All X5's and X6's now come with Active Headrests Standard in every vehicle. This is a safety feature and you cannot remove the headrests anymore. This new solution mounts and sits flush behind the headrest itself. If you have anymore questions please feel free to give me a call at the office.

Just curious. How come you can't post photos of your product or talk about it on the forum? Isn't it easier than getting a bunch of phone calls?

You cannot have a system mounted into the headrests for Active Headrests, which a lot of drivers are now taking up due to the low cost option and massive safety feature. This system has been designed with that fact in mind.
I beeive that you'll see most manufacturers coming out with these options in the future
(+ you can swap to new vehcile at a later stage)

I just want Blu_Ray DVD to be standard!!!!!!
