I've got the same problem w/ screen brightness. Had the dealer install new progman twice, but problem still persists. Sometimes, the brightness goes back to full brightness after 10 mins of driving. BTW, yes I do use the same key on my E70.

you know... that's the only thing i noticed that was weird...
i had a button fixed on the first week..but no problems since... now you mention this screen brightness thing and it is definitely happening to me.. i adjust and it reverts back to the default mid setting... i even tried to "save" the setting by inserting the keybod into the ignition, then i tried saving it by hitting one of the memory seat buttons... i tried everything that would allow me to "save" a setting... nothing... comes right back! (and i have an 08 with latest firmware version with the exception of 28.0 that came out last month)

Does anybody know how to fix it?
It seems like software update does not help to solve this issue... |

I'm having the same problem on my 2007 as well. I did notice this:
I have my headlights set to Auto. So when I start in my garage in the morning, due to dim lighting, the headlights are on when the car starts. After the car sitting all night in the garage, the screen brightness has dimmed to half way (per the settings screen). I change the screen brightness setting to max and it stays that way throughout the day, even when it gets dark, the screen is still OK. But when the car sits overnight again, the same thing happens--so it seems to be based on the amount of time the car isn't driven (maybe when certain system finally timeout, the setting isn't getting saved?). |

2007 model for me, same problem. I prefer darker screen, set it at minimum brightness and following day back to mid setting. I have the latest firmware and also too have tried countless memory sets with and without the fob. I too also start the vehicle in garage, auto headlights do activate. Perhaps there might be a connection. I would surely like a fix for this. In a twisted sense of relief it is slightly nice to know I am not the only with this problem.

Been there, done that. 07 X5 for me. Been to dealer numerous times. Blamed it on everything from key fobs, to the bluetooth module (and subsequent non-BMW approved bluetooth blackberry,) to an "I do not know." Apparently now, they have a PUMA case open. I did have a 09 X5 Diesel for 4 weeks. I set the brightness to full when I got it, stayed at full brightness the whole 4 weeks. There is something in the programing or the CCC unit based on vintage of production.
