Trunk lights won't turn off

I had this problem before and it turned out to be the latch for the trunk had loose bolts. I'd check there

I had this similar problem with my '00 4.4, the microswitch in the tailgate latch was faulty and was indicating my trunk was open all the time, leaving the hatch lights on. One finally melted and the wires rested together causing a dead short. I only found this problem because it was killing the battery. It pulled a 3 amp draw, and was causing a module behind the glove compartment to be torching hot. Is your dash info center telling you the hatch is open even when you know it's closed. Better keep your eye on it and catch it before it causes you more problems.
