New Passport 9500ci (concealed) arrived... now how to install it?? anyone?? ;)

I received today the new Passport 9500ci radar detector/laser jammer from Escort. This is the 'remote installed' unit, with front/rear laser jammers installed near bumpers and radar antenae in grill area. it also has a GPS unit for some cool functionality. Current reviews are putting this system as one of, if not the best around... but i'd rather not get into a discussion on that.

Rather... i need to figure out how to install it. I know i can go to a professional (and probably will)... but would like to do myself if possible. Couple questions:

1) has anyone tapped into an accessory powered wire under the drivers dash of a 2007 or 2008 X5 before? If so, which is the best wire to use/identify?

2) has anyone installed a remote detector like this on a 2007/2008 X5 and if so, do you have pictures? I'm trying to figure out where exactly to put all the sensors... and particularly wondering about the wiring for the rear laser unit, as it's a bit complicated with the current tailgate design.

I had the Passport SRX system (previous model) in my previous 2002 x5... but that setup and car is very different from the E70.

So... anyone have any thoughts/pics/experience??

thanks.

Visit www.radardetector.net or www.radarreviews.net for more information. Post a new thread and you will get alot of help. I recommend www.radardetector.net at the moment as it has alot more users and your more likely to get better answers.

thanks, although searching those sites shows essentially no installations in an x5 and about the same for bmw's in general. really looking for anyone who's done something similar with the x5, e70....

I have installed a Beltronics STi-R remote detector on my 2007. Fairly simple just takes a little time. I am also looking at the new Cheetah PASS laser Jammer...hmmm I mean, "Parking Aid".

can you send some pictures of where exactly you put the detector?

also, do you know which wire you used for access to power?

where do you think you'll put the laser jammer? above the bumper or below? it seems above the bumper it might get blocked by the sides a bit, since it needs to sit 'back' a little... if you know what i mean... but if you put it below, it has a clearer angle to the front, but it's also quite low.

thoughts?

thanks.

Arrow Here are some pics of my install (interior)

Slight difference in that I have the Beltronics, not the Escort.

Also, I didn't do the deflector install as based on what I am reading these days, it is illegal in Tennessee (yes, I know that several sites say it is legal, but then I read the vehicle code, which lead me to believe otherwise and would rather be safe than sorry). Exterior-wise, I did end up removing the bumper to install the antenna, it was just easier.

Since I have the standard stereo, I installed the GPS receiver under the dash speaker grille. I modified one of the blanks for the remote power switch (it's the slightly raised blank). Power is tapped into the center console cigarette lighter.

All in all, tedious but relatively painless install.
