The time it takes for the backup camera to turn on and display is more of a problem in my opinion. Just everyday driving from public parking lots, get in & go, I'm not in a huge rush, yet the camera doesn't even engage till I'm a few seconds into drive already (past reversing out). Useless.

An image quality fix would be great, but fix the delays too.

I think "excellent resolution" is subjective.

Some people don't even care about seeing things clearly (ie: my father-in-law still thinks his old projection TV is just as good as my HD. He even claims. Mine screen is bigger too!). But for those who do, Once you see and get used to things in the higher resolutions, it's pretty disturbing seeing things that doubt match up. That sounds like the gripe of most that complain about the backup camera anyways. I'm sure they've used ones in a Japanese import or other brand which is superior and are thus complaining. Some (if not most) of us drive BMW's cuz we want to be better than the rest. Heck, we sure pay a whole lot more for it. And having a subpar backup camera just sucks.

But rather being so unhappy all the time, we really should try to be happy. At least it works and there is one equipped. Plus it does have guidelines.

Tell me about it - BMW if you're listening, make your camera a NCO (No Cost Option)

that is true... there is an annoying delay when you start up and want to go...

by the time the idrive screen boots and the camera comes on...you've already pulled out of your parking spot and are half-way down the block!!

it's gotten to the point where you don't even use it most of the time...

again, resolution is great but what good is it if it takes that long to launch??

just thought i'd throw that out there... .if you don't notice a slight brightness of the screen within the first few seconds of activating it...then maybe that's your problem...(that auto brightness function may not be working)

i honestly don't have a problem with the reverse camera...

it has excellent resolution in the day time... and yes a dark, yet somewhat of a useful picture, at night... (unless of course you are backing up in the woods where there is total darkness!!)

in the city, where there are street lights, parking lot lamps, etc... i don't have a problem seeing...

but i also don't rely on the reverse camera either... and neither should you!! especially at night!!

i'm too old school!!

i still tend to toss my arm around the passenger seat as i back up!!
totally agree drod. I have never relied on my back up camera, period. I still go the safest way, traditional, old school back up driving. Besides, try using the back up camera when taking a DMV test and you'll fail automatically..lol.

I just like to show off my back up camera when there's other people in the car who's never seen one. They just stare at it with "cool, I wish I have one of those" stare.
