i also keep my ipod connected at all times.. (including overnight)
haven't had a battery problem yet!! (going on 6 months now) but just for your info...the system will power down after a few minutes...(i read somewhere it may be upto 15min, but don't quote me..) i wouldn't worry about it... but if it makes you comfortable you can always remove it when you leave it overnight!

What lights are you referring to? Is it a red light from the bottom of the rear view mirror? That's part of the alarm (I think).
