Can't drive with an open drivers door

Did you know that when you try to drive the car when the drivers door is wide open that the car automatically shifts back to park?

I was trying to move it from one parking space to another. The car was hot inside so I didn't want to close the door. It let me drive a few feet then an error symbol popped up and the car went into park. I tried it again going forwards and it went into park again.

Just thought I'd share.

That would be correct. I guess BMW doesn't want to be sued by any potential Darwin Award winners because no one told them it's not safe to drive with their doors open.

so... what if you open your door while you drive!? Does your car cut into park or just "yell" at you?

We sent Kaify to try it out. However, he got himself banned before he could report back!

Tsss...

I will try this with mine when it arrives in august... If that is the case I will immediatly return it to the dealer to disable that feature!

How the hell will I drive my caravan of 8m into the garage without my door open to have a look??? And no my backup camera won't do the trick...

While we're on the subject of sharing..

I only noticed 2 days ago that you can adjust brightness settings of your backup camera. When the camera is on, push the knob down to access the usual menu (parking/pathway lines, etc.), but at the bottom of it all there's a brightness level adjustment. Mine was defaulted 2 slots down from max. I doubt it will do much for nighttime but I'm holding out hope for next time I use it at night.

Cool! I'll have to check what mine is set at.

The resolution on the camera is hands down horrible. But I am able to see okay at night (probably due to the street lights). I guess when people are talking about not seeing at night, it's probably in a poorly lit area (yet to try that yet).
